IELTS in Uzbekistan: Test Centres, Booking and Results Guide

Taking IELTS in Uzbekistan: British Council and IDP centres, booking in 7 steps, computer vs paper, results timing, One Skill Retake and official links.

In Uzbekistan, IELTS is delivered by two official organisations, the British Council and IDP. You book directly on one of their websites, pay online, and take Listening, Reading and Writing on a computer at a test centre, with Speaking face to face with an examiner. Results for IELTS on computer usually arrive within a few days. Both organisations issue the same IELTS certificate, so universities don't care which one you used.

This guide covers where you can sit the test, how to book without mistakes, what the day looks like, and what to do when results arrive. Every fact is linked to an official page at the end, and where we could not confirm something, we tell you where to check.

Fees. Prices change, so we only quote what we saw on an official page. On 1 October 2026, IDP's Tashkent page showed UZS 2,665,000 for IELTS on computer. The British Council page did not load when we checked it; its current fee is on the "test dates, fees and locations" page linked below. A price comparison in Uzbek, with the September 2026 figures from both providers, is in IELTS narxi va ro‘yxatdan o‘tish.

Ignore prices posted by learning centres or Telegram channels. They are often a year old, and the only price that counts is the one on the booking page at the moment you pay.

Which IELTS do you need?

Choose the test your receiving organisation asks for, not the one your friend took.

  • IELTS Academic: university admission abroad (bachelor's and master's), many scholarships and professional registration.
  • IELTS General Training: work and migration, for example to Canada, Australia or New Zealand, and some secondary-level study.
  • IELTS for UKVI: only when a UK visa application specifically requires a test approved by UK Visas and Immigration.
  • IELTS Life Skills: a Speaking and Listening test at A1, A2 or B1 for certain UK family or settlement visas.

If a university says "IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0", that "no band below" part matters as much as the overall score. Write both numbers down before you book.

Computer or paper?

IELTS announced that from mid-2026 it will no longer offer paper-based IELTS; all tests will be delivered on computer, with exact timelines varying by market. In some markets there is a new "Writing on Paper" option, where you take the test on computer but handwrite the Writing section. IDP's Uzbekistan page still mentions both formats, so check the booking page for what is actually offered on your date.

IELTS on computerIELTS on paper (where still offered)
Listening, Reading, Writingtyped on a computer at a test centrewritten by hand on answer sheets
Speakingface to face with an examinerface to face with an examiner
Resultsmost issued within 2 days (IELTS global figure); IDP Tashkent shows "1 to 5 days"within 13 days in most locations
One Skill Retakeavailablenot available

Which suits you? If you type slowly in English, or you've never written 250 words on a keyboard, practise typing essays for two weeks before the test. Word count appears on screen in the computer test, which many candidates find reassuring. If you strongly prefer handwriting, ask your provider whether "Writing on Paper" is offered in Uzbekistan.

Booking in 7 steps

  1. Confirm the requirement. Open the page of the university, employer or visa you are applying for. Write down the test type, the overall score, the minimum per section and the deadline.
  2. Pick a provider and a date. Compare dates in your city on both websites. Tashkent has sessions very often; regional cities have fewer, so book earlier.
  3. Allow time for results. Choose a date that leaves at least two weeks before your application deadline, in case something goes wrong or you want a retake.
  4. Enter your details exactly as in your ID. Spelling must match your passport character for character (Shohruh and Shoxrux are different names to a computer). On test day you must bring the same valid document you registered with. Check which documents your centre accepts; for UKVI tests a passport is normally required.
  5. Pay online on the official booking site only. Nobody needs your card details over Telegram.
  6. Read the confirmation email. It shows the test venue, arrival time and your Speaking time, which may be on another day.
  7. Use the free official preparation. Both providers give registered candidates practice materials, and the British Council has a free computer-delivered familiarisation test so you can see the screen layout in advance.

Read the transfer, cancellation and refund rules before paying. They depend on how many days before the test you ask, and they differ between providers.

On the day

Arrive at the time in your email, not the start time of the test. You will leave your bag and phone in a storage area, have your photo taken and your ID checked, and sit at an assigned computer. Speaking is recorded. If you are nervous about talking to an examiner, do at least one full IELTS Speaking mock test at home with a timer before the day.

Results, retakes and your certificate

  • When: see the table above. You'll get an email when results are online, and your Test Report Form (TRF) follows.
  • How long it counts: IELTS describes a recommended validity period of two years. Some organisations accept older results, most do not.
  • Working out your overall band: it's the average of the four sections, rounded to the nearest half band. You can check your own maths with our IELTS band calculator.
  • One Skill Retake: if one section let you down, you can retake just that section, but only if your full test was IELTS on computer, only within 60 days, and only once per full test. IELTS itself recommends checking that your university or visa authority accepts it before you book.
  • Enquiry on Results: you can ask for a remark of one or more sections for a fee, within a limited time after results. Ask your provider for the current deadline.

IELTS or the national certificate?

If you only need English for a university or job inside Uzbekistan, the national Multilevel certificate may be enough and costs less. For study abroad and international jobs, IELTS is the usual choice. The difference is explained in the CEFR national certificate guide.

Quick check: true or false?

  • 1. A certificate from IDP is worth more than one from the British Council.
  • 2. You can book One Skill Retake after a paper-based test.
  • 3. The Speaking test may be on a different day from Listening, Reading and Writing.
  • 4. IELTS General Training is the right choice for a master's degree in the UK.
  • 5. The spelling of your name in the booking must match your ID exactly.
  • 6. Writing Task 2 needs at least 250 words.
  • 7. One Skill Retake must be taken within 60 days of the full test.
  • 8. A price posted in a learning centre's Telegram channel is a reliable guide.

Prepare Speaking every day

Most candidates in Uzbekistan find Speaking the hardest part to practise, because there is nobody to talk to at 11 p.m. BandMate lets you answer IELTS-style Speaking questions by voice with Bandi, run a full Speaking mock, and get feedback on fluency, vocabulary and pronunciation. It is not an official band score, but it gives you daily speaking time. For Writing, start with the IELTS Writing Task 2 guide.
