2. Is your routine different at the weekend?
Completely different, actually. On weekdays I’m up at half six because I have to catch the metro to work, but on Saturdays I let myself sleep until nine and then have a long breakfast with my family.
6. Did you learn to play a musical instrument as a child?
I did, sort of. My parents sent me to dutar lessons when I was about ten, but I gave up after a year because I hated practising scales. I kind of regret it now.
gave up, I kind of regret it — Part
8. Is traditional music still popular among young people in your country?
I’d say it depends on the occasion. Most young people I know listen to pop or rap day to day, but at weddings everyone dances to traditional songs, so it hasn’t really disappeared.
11. Where do people in your city usually buy food?
In Tashkent it’s a mix. Older people still prefer bazaars like Chorsu, because the fruit and meat are fresher and you can bargain. Younger families often go to supermarkets or order groceries through an app, mainly to save time.
13. Do you know your neighbours well?
Pretty well, yes. We live in a mahalla, so people see each other at weddings and funerals, and my mum knows almost everyone on our street. I’m less close to them, but I always say hello.
16. Are neighbours as important today as they were in the past?
Probably less important in big cities. People who live in apartment blocks can go years without knowing who lives next door. But in an emergency, a neighbour is still the first person you call, so I don’t think they’ll ever stop mattering.
Part 1 да ҳам фикрни чеклаш (But in an emergency…)
Part 2:
A. Describe a time when you had to wait for something. You should say: what you waited for, how long you waited, what you did while you were waiting, and explain how you felt about waiting.
I’d like to talk about the time I waited for a train from Tashkent to Samarkand last spring. My cousin was getting married, and I’d booked a ticket on the fast train so I’d arrive in time for the evening party. When I got to the station, the board said the train was delayed, and in the end we waited almost three hours.
At first I just sat in the waiting hall and kept checking my phone, which made the time go even slower. Then I started talking to an older man next to me who was travelling to the same wedding, as it turned out. He was a friend of my uncle’s, and he told me stories about my family that I’d never heard, including how my grandparents met.
As for how I felt, I was really annoyed at the beginning, because I thought I’d miss half of the celebration. But looking back, those three hours were one of the best parts of the trip. It taught me that waiting is only a waste of time if you spend it staring at a screen. Now, when I’m stuck in a queue, I try to put my phone away and actually notice the people around me.

Describe a place in your city where people often have to wait. You should say: where it is, why people go there, how long they usually wait, and explain what could be done to reduce the waiting time.
Калит сўзлар: take a ticket, the queue moves slowly, book an appointment online, peak hours.
Part 3: 8 та савол
- 17 Why are some people more patient than others?
- 18 Do you think people today are less patient than in the past?
- 19 How has technology changed the way people wait for services?
- 20 What can businesses do to make waiting less stressful for customers?
- 21 Should public services, like clinics, be available 24 hours a day?
- 22 Is it better to teach children to be patient or to give them what they want quickly?
- 23 Why do people queue for hours to buy new products, like phones?
- 24 Will people have to wait less in the future?
18. Do you think people today are less patient than in the past?
In some ways, yes. We’ve got used to things happening instantly: a taxi arrives in five minutes and a message is answered in seconds, so a ten-minute delay feels unbearable. That said, I’m not sure people are less patient by nature. My grandparents waited years for a phone line, but they had no choice. If they’d had apps, they’d probably be just as impatient as we are.
19. How has technology changed the way people wait for services?
It’s moved a lot of the waiting online. Ten years ago you had to queue at an office just to get a certificate, whereas now many documents can be requested through a government portal from home. The downside is that people who aren’t comfortable with smartphones, especially older people, can end up waiting even longer, because they depend on someone else to help them.
22. Is it better to teach children to be patient or to give them what they want quickly?
I’d definitely say teach them patience, although not in a strict way. If a child always gets things immediately, they may struggle later, for example at school, where results take months of work. Small things help, like saving pocket money for a toy instead of getting it the same day. It shows them that waiting can actually make something feel more valuable.
- A — сабаб (Why…?)
A — I think there are a couple of reasons…; B — Compared to twenty years ago…; C — One practical thing they could do is…; D — It’s hard to predict, but I imagine…; E — On balance, I’d say…
Жавоблар: 17 — A; 18 — B; 19 — B (технология келишидан олдин ва кейин); 20 — C; 21 — E; 22 — E; 23 — A; 24 — D.
- listen music → listen to music.
- make shopping → go shopping ёки do the shopping.
- I am agree → I agree.
- In my country Uzbekistan ҳар жавобда. Экзаменатор қаердан эканингизни билади; here in Tashkent ёки in my city табиийроқ.
Why are some people more patient? My brother is very patient…
