О характере спрашивают What is he like? He’s friendly and reliable, but a bit stubborn. She’s not very hard-working или She can be a bit lazy.
My best friend is generous and funny, but he’s always late.
What is he like, how is he и what does he look like
|---|---|---|
| What is he like? | характер, какой он человек | He’s calm and very patient. |
| What does he look like? | внешность | He’s tall with a short beard. |
| How is he? He’s back at work. |
| What does he like? | что он любит | He likes football and old films. |
В вопросе What is he like? What is your boss like?, а не What does your boss like?

Прямое He’s lazy или She’s selfish в английском звучит резче, чем по-русски «он ленивый».
- not very + положительное слово: He’s not very organised.
- can be + a bit: She can be a bit bossy.
- tends to: He tends to interrupt people.
- not the most … person: She’s not the most patient person in the world.
- a little too: He’s a little too honest sometimes.
I can be a bit impatient звучит зрело, а I am impatient — как признание.
|---|---|---|---|
| коммуникабельный | communicable | sociable, good with people | communicable — о заразной болезни |
| простой человек | a simple man | down-to-earth | simple может значить «недалёкий» |
| добрый | good | kind | a good man скорее «порядочный» |

What does he look like?, а не на What is he like? He is tall and handsome. He’s tall with curly hair, and he’s really easy-going.
Для сравнения людей пригодятся формы more patient, the most reliable, они разобраны в статье степени сравнения прилагательных.
My uncle Rustam is one of the most generous people I know. When I moved to Tashkent to study, he let me stay in his flat for a whole year and never took any money. He’s quite strict about some things, for example, dinner is always at seven. But he’s also very funny: at family weddings he tells the best stories. If I had to describe him in two words, I’d say generous and reliable.
Обратите внимание: quite strict и but he’s also делают портрет живым.
IT Park
A: So, what’s your new team lead like?
B: She’s very organised. We have a plan for every sprint now.
A: Sounds good. Is she strict?
B: A bit. She doesn’t like it when people are late for stand-ups.
A: Well, you are always late.
B: Only on Mondays! But she’s fair, and she’s really patient with the juniors.
A: What does she look like? I think I saw her in the lift.
B: Tall, short dark hair, glasses. She’s quiet at first, but she’s actually quite funny.
A: Better than your old boss, then.
B: Much better. He was bossy and a bit arrogant.
В диалоге оба вопроса стоят рядом: What’s she like? What does she look like?

В BandMate можно рассказать Bandi о друге, коллеге или родственнике, а приложение отметит, где вы перепутали What is he like и What does he look like
