Over the last twenty years, the internet has changed almost every part of our lives, from the way we study and work to the way we pay for bread. While many people see it as the greatest invention of our time, others worry about its negative effects.
On the one hand, the internet gives everyone equal access to knowledge. A teenager in a small town can take the same online course as a student in Tashkent, and some young people even work for foreign companies without leaving their home town. Moreover, it makes daily life easier: we can pay bills, order a taxi or request some government documents on our phones instead of standing in long queues.
On the other hand, the internet can harm both our minds and our wallets. Many people, including me, find it hard to stop scrolling, and as a result they lose hours that they could spend on sport, reading or family. Another serious problem is fake news and online scams. In my opinion, the internet itself is neither good nor bad; it depends on how we use it. Therefore, I believe schools should teach digital skills, such as checking sources and protecting personal data, just as seriously as maths or history.
